Becoming an Irish citizen

“Do I need a solicitor to help me apply for naturalisation?”

You will need to sign your application in the presence of a Practicing Solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths. This is because the application includes a “Statutory Declaration” that you must sign in the presence of a Solicitor/ Commissioner for Oaths. You will need to bring your original passport with you.  Like most solicitors, I charge a fee of €10.00 per document for providing this service, which will only take a few minutes.

You will also need to have a solicitor provide a “Certified copy” of your passport, and of your marriage certificate if your application is based on your marriage to an Irish citizen. Don’t forget to bring the originals with you, as the Solicitor will need to compare the copy to the original. Again, like most solicitors I charge a fee of €10.00 per document for providing this service.

Since the application process now includes an application fee of €175.00, which is non-refundable if your application is incomplete, you will need to take great care to ensure that you have filled every part of the application form correctly, and that you have provided all of the original, certified and plain copy documents that are required. A failure to provide full and frank disclosure of all of the relevant details at this stage can jeopardise your chances of success.

We can provide a proof-reading service, to check your application and make sure that it is absolutely complete, as well as swearing the Statutory Declaration and providing any certified copies required, for a consultation fee of €150 (including VAT at 23%). If your application is not complete, we will assist you in making any amendments that you need to make or provide you with a list of additional documents that I recommend you include. This process usually takes in or around one hour. If you have prepared your application carefully and prefer to avoid legal fees, while also securing some peace of mind before you post your application, this may be all you require.

If you are at an earlier stage of the process, and wish to receive some advice about whether you are eligible to apply, a consultation will also be your best starting point. Perhaps you are worried that your application may be refused, or perhaps you are making a second application and you want to do everything you can to avoid being refused again this time around.

Having consulted with us, you may wish to instruct us to handle your application. If you would like us to manage the entire process for you, and to apply on your behalf, we will usually charge a total fee of c. €1,000.00 (plus VAT at 23%) – you will get credit for your consultation fee.

Premium service: We make the application for you – €1,000.00 + VAT.

Consultation: We meet with you to answer your questions about naturalisation and immigration, and to advise you about making your own application – €150.00 incl VAT
